| I've been a professional photographer for 40 years. I ALWAYS use a rubber lens hood for my camera lenses. As a lens hood to protect your pictures from lens flare, all lens hoods are pretty useless. None of them extend far enough to really offer practical protection. But, as a device to protect the LENS from physical damage rubber lens hoods are EXCELLENT! Think of them as a big giant rubber bumper that absorbs shock of the lens is ever accidently banged against something. I get about a year or two of "life" out of such lens hoods before they begin to tear away from the metal screw-ring and have to be replaced. So, I always buy them two-at-a-time! I think of them as a disposable safety device to the protection of the lens.Zeikos ZE-LH58 58mm Soft Rubber Lens Hood |
It's soft, it's rubber, it's a lens hood, it's less expensive and just as good

The price is so low on this that I took a chance and bought two. This was a good move.
I've had many of these collapsible hoods over the years. What you care about is:
1. It must shield the lens from flare.
2. You must be able to pop it out or collapse it without taking your eye from the view finder.
3. It must screw cleanly into the delicate filter threads on the end of the lens, and accept filters and lens caps into its own threads.
4. It must fit in your kit bag.
This hood scores perfectly on #1-#3. It is large in diameter when collapsed, so you do need a bit of care to get it into your bag, particularly a small bag. But I don't see how any rubber hood could do a better job of this, so I did not deduct any points.
Highly recommended. |
Solid Thick Rubber Hood

I needed to replace a rubber hood that started to tear at it's fold seam and seached the net a solid one.
A lot of overly expensive hoods out there and I came across this nice one. It's a very good foldable lens hood that extends in three positions. Using it for my Canon Powershot S3 attached to a lens adapter, it only slightly vignets at the corners at the fully extended position. Not a big deal and the 1/2 position is just fine.

I highly recommend this solid and economically priced Zeikos ZE-LH58 58mm Soft Rubber Lens Hood.
I'm thinking about getting another one.

| I needed a hood that I could pack in my compact camera bag, and this fit the bill perfectly. It is both versatile and compact. |
Does just what it says it does.

| I bought two of these for my "kit" lenses that I got with/for my Rebel T1i, and they work just fine. They seem to be well constructed, and they can extend or collapse into 3 different configurations. Since Canon does not include any sort of lens hood with their lenses (at least not the ones I purchased) these are an economical alternative. The soft rubber also helps cushion the lens from those accidental bumps. |
It works

| Well made, works well with a polarizing filter but do you need it? When I'm having sun glare issues I find that my cupped hand works every bit as good. I guess with this hood you don't have to think about it though. No complaints with the quality or the way it works with the camera and filters. |

| I received one as a gift. It is well made, has good threads, and does a fine job for much less than many other hoods. I plan to purchase a second one for my other 58mm diameter lens. |

I really like these lens hoods. They do what I expect and do it well. The absolute only negative remark I can make is to mention the stiffness of the rubber. They are not as soft as my older versions, which makes them a little bit harder to expand and flex back for storage.
However, I can live with this, as it is a little tiny inconvenience. They work great to block glare and provide for great shots without any interference from unwanted light sources.
I bought two in 58mm for my telephoto and my standard lense for my DSLR Canon. They serve me well and I would buy them again. The price was right and as usual, Amazon performed as expected. Thanks!! |
